IU football transfers, injuries leave walk-ons and true freshmen next in line for carries

BLOOMINGTON — Deland McCullough likes to look at each of his running backs as if they have their own job. There’s the starter, the third-down back, the gadget guy — who engages in pass catching, trick plays and other unique formations. IU’s running backs coach does that to keep the entire running backs room ready to contribute.

“I’m always building the room from the bottom up,” McCullough said Tuesday. “You know what you got on the top, but you want to make sure all the supporting guys are at the level that you want to be able to put in the game.
