MUNCIE, Ind. — It’s a Tuesday night in November, the ESPN cameras are rolling and it’s freezing out. That can only mean one thing: MACtion.

The crowd for Ball State’s game against Western Michigan on this weeknight is sparse, per usual. This is no indictment on Ball State, as it's the case for just about every midweek game around the conference. Fans with a longer commute don’t have time, those who haven’t retired yet have to wake up early the next morning for work and students are in the middle of a school week. It isn’t easy to set aside four or five hours and attend a football game on a weeknight, especially when it’s on ESPN2 and especially when it's to watch a team that won't go to a bowl game for the fifth straight season.
