‘I believe in him’: Why coach Tyler Stockton could turn around BSU football's defense

MUNCIE, Ind. — When Mike Neu decided he needed to make a change with his defensive coaching staff, the first person he said he chose to interview as its next coordinator was Tyler Stockton.

Neu, Ball State football’s head coach, could tell when Stockton arrived at BSU ahead of the 2019 season that Stockton had the passion, swagger, confidence and excitement necessary. Neu watched Stockton, who started as the Cardinals’ co-defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach, lead Ball State with an attention to detail that enabled it to cut down on the amount of yards rushing it allowed per game by about 25 percent.
