HS rundown: Delaware County softball opener features 52 runs, 49 hits

MUNCIE, Ind. — Wapahani and Cowan lit up the scoreboard Tuesday night in the opening game of the Delaware County Softball Tournament at Wes-Del.

Fifty-two runs. Forty-nine hits. And a game that lasted so long, the second quarterfinal couldn't be completed.

Wapahani topped Cowan 36-16 behind 31 hits to advance to Saturday's semifinals against Delta. Yorktown was leading Wes-Del 4-1 after five innings in a game scheduled to be finished Wednesday. That winner faces Daleville in the second semifinal Saturday, with the championship to follow.

The Raiders (13-3) had four players with four or more hits, led by Megan Barton going 5-for-5 with five runs and five RBIs.
