How BSU’s cross country, soccer and women’s volleyball teams could benefit from the postponement of fall sports

MUNCIE, Ind. — What fall sports will look like in the spring for Ball State teams whose seasons were postponed earlier this month, at this point, remains unclear.

Soccer coach Josh Rife understands the health and safety of the athletes will remain paramount, as do women’s volleyball coach Kelli Miller Phillips and cross country coach Brian Etelman. Phillips is looking for enough matches for having a spring season to be worth it. And Etelman foresees a compromise in the number of track and cross country events held, in addition to a belief it won’t be possible to do both indoor and outdoor track on top of cross country, because the cross country athletes also compete in track and field.
