MUNCIE, Ind. — "MAR-TIN-A."

Those three syllables have become a popular chant for the Cowan student section as they frantically wave Swiss flags to celebrate whenever the volleyball team's newest addition gets a kill.

The syllables spell out the first name of Martina Demarchi, the junior foreign exchange student from Lugano, Switzerland. Demarchi has been a large reason for the Blackhawks' No. 2 ranking in Class A and 11-2 start on the season, with its only losses coming to 3A No. 1 Burris (3-1) and 4A's Greenfield-Central.
