NEW CASTLE, Ind. — Mabrey Shaffmaster remembers the moment she walked off the New Castle Fieldhouse floor for the last time.
Following a 3-0 loss to Yorktown in last Saturday's sectional semifinal, the Trojans made their way to the tunnel at the south end of the gym — the same one they had gone through hundreds of times before. But instead of going straight up the stairs to the locker room, they stopped. Standing in that tunnel last Saturday, Shaffmaster knew it would be the last time she and her seniors teammates would be in a New Castle uniform together.
