From 1995-2015, Cowan didn't have varsity wrestling. Just 4 years later, it's a 'force to be reckoned with'

MUNCIE, Ind. — Tony Abbott remembers what people used to tell him when he started — well, restarted — the Cowan wrestling program.

"That's not going to work," people would say. "At Cowan? That's not going to work."

That was six years ago when this journey began. Abbott was the Muncie Southside wrestling coach for 18 years before stepping away in 2013. That same year he started the Cowan Wrestling Club and the high school had its first varsity team in 2015 — 20 years after it disbanded in 1995.
