MUNCIE, Ind. — Jayla Scaife had completed about half of her senior year playing basketball for the University of Dayton this season when she felt as if she might just call it a career.
The pain that came with tendonitis and bursitis in the former Muncie Central star’s right Achilles had become almost too frustrating to endure. The once-avoided prospect of season-ending surgery had become too welcoming of a release from what seemed like “never-ending” agony. She just wanted it to stop.
