MUNCIE, Ind. — The season-opening football game between Delta and Muncie Central has been canceled.
On Friday, Aug. 7, a Delta football player tested positive for COVID-19. As a result, 153 students at Delta High School, which included the entire football team, along with five football coaches were forced to quarantine.
Nearly 90 of those students in the high school will return to school on Aug. 19, according to Delaware Community Schools Superintendent Reece Mann. And while that return date is before Delta's Week 1 game, scheduled for Aug. 21, it leaves the football team well short of the minimum number of practices needed before returning to athletic competition.
