MUNCIE, Ind. — Helen Beach wasn't sure if she'd ever get this opportunity.
Sure, the Muncie Burris defensive specialist had the talent to be a Division I volleyball player. Playing on a 13U Munciana squad, she was named an All-American. As a junior, she was a Class 3A All-State selection. She played four years of varsity volleyball at Burris, one of the best programs in the state.
Still, Beach's high school career has been anything but easy. Injuries and bad luck could have gotten in her way, but she kept pressing forward. That work paid off as Beach announced her verbal commitment to Santa Clara University this week.
