MUNCIE, Ind. — Wes-Del football hasn't had a winning season since 2016-17, and this past fall's 0-8 record was the worst yet.
Ryan Cole, who replaced long-time coach Brad Hess, then left after just one year to lead Centerville's program. The move surprised athletic director Kye Denney, and he entered another coaching search hoping to find a long-term solution.
Matt Nuckols was officially hired on May 12. He's coached football and basketball in Wes-Del's middle and high schools over the past decade, but stepped away from the gridiron last year after his second child was born and he began a new job as elementary school assistant principal.
