PORTLAND — Standing in the middle of the gym, members of Delta's wrestling team stood still as they listened to the public address announcer read off the final team standings.
Delta knew it had a shot at the regional title. I mean, it sent seven different wrestlers to the podium at the Jay County regional just minutes before. The Eagles would fall short of a title, however, finishing with 123 points as a team, just 7.5 points behind Bellmont's 130.5.
While coach Gary Schliessman acknowledged that it would've been nice for Delta to win its first regional title since 1996, he couldn't help but smile as he followed his team walking off the mat Saturday.
