Central football beating the heat

MUNCIE — Defensive end Jayonne Foley knows how to stay cool at Central's football practices.

He brings with him a gallon jug of water with ice. He doesn't always drink it all, but he knows it's important to stay hydrated in the heat. At the beginning of Thursday practice, the heat index reached 87 degrees, mild for some Julys in Indiana, but still warm enough to take precautions. And in the days and weeks leading up to the season opener Aug. 19, players at East Central Indiana schools will practice in hotter conditions, almost assuredly.

Official practices aren't allowed until Aug.
