ANDERSON, Ind. — When the players heard that Muncie Burris boys soccer moved back down to Class 1A, they were understandably confident.
The Owls were coming off a 10-8 season that included a postseason victory, so they assumed greater success would come with an improved roster in 2022. They instead started this year 2-5-1, and head coach David Karnes feared that overconfidence and issues with their home field were hampering the team's potential.
Yet Burris, behind the leadership of its nine seniors and a mindset change from top players Bryce Karnes and Asher Donahue, turned its season around.
