PORTLAND, Ind. — Jay County girls basketball hasn't won a sectional title since 2005-06, during head coach Kirk Comer's first stint with the program.
Since returning to the Patriots in 2015-16, Comer has seen his teams inch closer to another trophy each season. Last year was the closest Jay had gotten as it lost 46-42 to a strong Hamilton Heights squad, and although the team is off to a similarly strong start in 2021-22 (7-2), the group better understands what separates regular season and postseason success.
"I hope (it motivated us) a lot. We've been getting a little bit closer each time, and hopefully this year maybe we can get through.
