As Central's Aaliyah Barnes jumped over the seventh hurdle at the Ben Davis Regional finals in the 100 hurdles Tuesday, she had a sizable lead.
But she hit the eighth. Knocked it over. Yet, the sophomore still finished third with a 15.54 to qualify for state finals June 3.
"After placing second in sectionals, that probably didn't make her feel very good, but we told her not to worry about that," said Central coach Tara Gudger. "She works hard and wants to be at state, and you know, today, she did it."
Barnes and Yorktown sophomore Hannah Rapp, who finished second in the 300 hurdles with a time of 45.
