A summer competing with the state's best has Central boys basketball confident entering season

MUNCIE, Ind. — This summer was big for Muncie Central.

In the month of June alone, coach Chandler Thompson says his guys played around 30 games together. That time allowed returning varsity starters plenty of time to work alongside some of the up-and-coming juniors and seniors playing varsity this season.

It showed that despite graduating several seniors and seeing freshman sensation Reggie Bass transfer to Hamilton Heights Christian Academy over the summer, the Bearcats still have the talent to compete against — and beat — some of the best teams in the state.

They went toe-to-toe against Class 4A schools in Ben Davis, which lost to Carmel in the state finals, and Warren Central along with powerhouses Culver Academy and Crispus Attucks, which moved into 4A after advancing to the 3A state championship and semistate finals, respectively.
