The IHSAA girls swimming and diving state finals will look different this year with no fans, fewer alternates traveling with the teams and two separate preliminary rounds, to name a few of the changes.
Still, several East Central Indiana athletes will head down to the Natatorium at IUPUI to compete in the preliminaries Friday and, if all goes well, in the finals on Saturday.
Some — Jay County's Mara Bader, Eliza Bader, Rieley Brewster and Ashlyn Dow, Delta's Hayden Armstrong and New Castle's Lylah Hutson — have been to the finals before. For others — Jay County's Lillian Clemmons, who previously served as an alternate, and Winchester's Ella Baldwin, who won the school's first ever swimming sectional this past weekend — this week will be their first, and last, time.
