DALEVILLE, Ind. — After watching four of his runners compete in this year's Delta regional at the Muncie Sportsplex, David Beard decided that was going to be his last race as a cross country coach.
For 35 years, Beard coached both track and field and cross country. He spent the first three years at Muncie Southside while he was still attending college at Ball State and the last 32 years at Daleville.
The thought of retiring had been on his mind for some time now. He knew there was never going to be a perfect time to do it, so, shortly after the regional, he made his decision known.
