MELBOURNE, Australia -- Sebastian Vettel and Ferrari have outfoxed Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton to win Formula One's season-opening Australian Grand Prix.
After pitting from the lead on lap 18, Hamilton rejoined behind Max Verstappen and was unable to pass the Dutchman allowing Vettel to extend his advantage before stopping himself. The Briton eventually finished second, 10 seconds adrift of Vettel, leading home new teammate Valtteri Bottas in third.
It was a day to forget for local hero Daniel Ricciardo. The Aussie was hit with a five-place grid penalty for an unscheduled gearbox change before suffering an electrical failure on the way to the grid.
