Murphy finished fourth out of 81 competitors in the 18-hole qualifier at Sapona Ridge Country Club (par 71, 6,323 yards). She shot a 2-over-par 73 that included 16 pars and just two bogeys.
Murphy will join former Auburn golfer and assistant coach Margaret Shirley in the field. Shirley earned an exemption into the championship by winning the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship in 2014.
The U.S. Women’s Amateur will run August 10-16 at Portland Golf Club in Portland, Ore. The championship consists of 36 holes of stroke play followed by a 64-player match-play tournament. Fox Sports 1 will have live coverage of the match-play portion of the event.
