AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn’s Unique Thompson was named the SEC Freshman of the Week for women’s basketball, the league office announced Tuesday.
Thompson, a 6-3 forward from Theodore, Ala., has been a breakout star for the Tigers through the first three games of the 2017-18 season. She is averaging 12.0 points and 12.3 rebounds in the early-going.
In Sunday’s 75-59 win over Louisiana Tech, Thompson recorded her first collegiate double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds. She had secured a double-double by halftime with 10 points and 10 rebounds in the first half, the first Auburn player to do so since DeWanna Bonner in 2009.
