AUBURN, Ala. – For the second time in four weeks, Auburn’s Unique Thompson has been named SEC Freshman of the Week for women’s basketball, the SEC office announced Tuesday.
Thompson, a 6-3 forward from Theodore, Ala., recorded back-to-back double-doubles in Auburn’s wins over Louisiana-Lafayette and Southern over the weekend. She scored 15 fourth-quarter points on her way to a 29-point, 12-rebound effort in the Tigers’ 70-60 win at UL-Lafayette on Friday, then came back with an 18-point, 10-rebound performance in Auburn’s 65-47 victory over Southern at home on Saturday.
Her 29 points Friday night at UL-Lafayette marked the second-most ever scored by an Auburn freshman and the most since Becky Jackson’s 38-point night against Iona on Feb.
