Birmingham, Ala. - Auburn senior Shawn Johnson earned first team All-America honors in the men’s triple jump after a sixth-place finish in the event at the final day of the NCAA Indoor Track& Field Championships at the Birmingham CrossPlex Saturday.
Johnson’s sixth place was the best finish by an Auburn athlete in the men’s triple jump at NCAA Indoors since 1998 when Andre Scott was third. Johnson’s best jump came on the sixth and final attempt as he leaped 16.29m/53-5.50. Johnson was sixth after trials with a jump of 16.17m/53-0.75.
Junior Marshay Ryan claimed ninth in the women’s triple jump to earn her second All-America honors in the event indoors.
