Zane Grothe swam in the final race of the 2016 USA Olympic Swimming Team Trials on Sunday night in Omaha, Neb. The Auburn distance record-holder finished eighth in the 1500-meter freestyle, touching in 15:30.79.
Over the eight-day swimming trials, Auburn had four finalists. Grothe finished fourth in the 400-meter freestyle and Sunday’s 1500 while Micah Lawrence was fourth in the 200-meter breaststroke and Annie Lazor was seventh in the same event.
Auburn swimming and diving has had eight current and former athletes qualify for the Olympics. Current swimmers to make their country’s Olympic team are Peter Holoda (Hungary), Ziv Kalontarov (Israel) and Luis Martimez (Guatemala).
