Swimming & Diving. Cielo advances to 50m fly finals at FINA World Championships

Cesar Cielo clocked the eighth fastest time of the 50m butterfly semifinals to advance to Monday’s finals at action got underway at the FINA World Championships in Kazan, Russia.

Cielo went 23.66 in the morning prelims to finish 14th and then went 23.29 in the semifinals to secure his spot in the championship finals on Monday.

Marcelo Chierighini swam leadoff for Brazil’s 4x100m freestyle relay team that finished just off the podium in fourth. His 23.15 50m split was third-best and his 48.54 100m split was the fourth-best leadoff leg in the eight-team final.

Kirsty Coventry, swimming in the first of her four events, swam a 2:15.
