Mike Slive to step down effective June 1; Greg Sankey to assume commissioner duties

Southeastern Conference commissioner Mike Slive sits in his office during an interview Friday, May 22, 2015, in Birmingham, Ala. The Southeastern Conference agenda for its spring meetings leans heavily toward ensuring other leagues don't have any competitive advantages, whether it’s satellite camps or rules restricting graduate transfers.

But the Southeastern Conference’s outgoing commissioner managed to not shed a tear while delivering a heartfelt goodbye after announcing he would be stepping down as the head of the league effective Monday — two months earlier than originally planned.

“The outpouring of so much love and support that has gone on for me the last couple of weeks is really quite, quite gratifying,” Slive said.
