And the freshman found out today that he will also be the first freshman quarterback to start for the Tigers in 73 years when Travis Tidwell led the nation in total offense in 1946.
From all reports he won the job after a fierce head to head competition with redshirt freshman Joey Gatewood. There were time s during fall camp when observers thought Gatewood would get the nod and there were times when it looked like Nix was the guy.
