In early May 1976, she stopped in Auburn during a short campaign swing through the Heart of Dixie (whose Republicans supported her husband more than Gerald Ford) in advance of the May 4 primary elections in Georgia, Nebraska, and Indiana.
She spent the night in Auburn Friday night and held a press conference at a hotel Saturday, the day of the Texas Republican primary, which the Great Auburn Fan swept.
