Auburn Football Spring Practice Notes: Malik Willis, Woody Barrett, Jarrett Stidham, Kyle Davis And More

The Auburn Tigers held their A-Day game Saturday, meaning their spring practice will be over following today's practice. With just the one practice left, it's time for an update on how last week's spring practices went. With that in mind, here's our Auburn Football Spring Practice Report.

Jarrett Stidham Shines
The A-Day game went about as well as it could have for former Baylor QB Jarrett Stidham. He completed 16 for 20 for 267 yards, giving Auburn fans hope he can bring the passing element the Tigers' offense has lacked of late. Head coach Gus Malzahn told ESPN he thinks the upcoming hype around Stidham is a good thing.

"I think it’s a good thing," Malzahn said. "When your players play good, I think it’s a good thing. It ain’t a bad thing."

Hopefully Stidham plays a little bit more like Cam Newton than Jeremy Johnson.

Woody Barrett Falling, Malik Willis Rising
The expected No. 3 QB this year was a non-factor in the Auburn A-Day game. He played two drives, both three-and-outs, before sitting the entire second half. Oddly enough, Malzahn said he didn't know why Barrett didn't play. Barrett struggled with accuracy in the spring. Once Sean White is healthy, Barrett could have an even tougher time getting work. That's in large part because of Malik Willis, the early-enrollee who wowed at the A-Day game.

247Sports reports there was quite a bit of buzz from the Auburn staff and Willis backed it up during the game. He completed 11 of 18 passes for 157 yards and has the dual-threat ability that has drawn compairisons to Nick Marshall. It's Jarrett Stidham time in 2017, but the future could belong to Willis.

Kyle Davis Situation
The wide out showed promise last year as a true freshman and was supposed to have a breakout season this year. But he has
Kyle Davis absence is a looming question mark for Auburn going into the summer. But Davis has missed all of the spring as he deals with "personal business." Davis was originally expected to return a few weeks after the start of spring, but now the timeline is that Malzahn think he'll be back for the fall. Davis' future is very much in doubt and missing practice time won't help his development.

Nate Craig-Myers Shines
Given the issues with Davis, it's a good thing Craig-Myers looked great at the A-Day game. He caught five passes for 154 yards, showing good chemistry with Stidham. Hopefully Craig-Myers is in for a breakout season.
