The Crazy Reason Why The Iron Bowl Will Be On ESPN This Year

In this Auburn football news update, CBS executives' love affair with the Alabama Crimson Tide will keep this year's Iron Bowl off of network television, pushing the Auburn Tigers/Alabama classic onto ESPN.

When CBS chose to broadcast this coming Saturday's game between #3 Alabama and the #1 Mississippi State Bulldogs, the network exhausted its limit of five broadcasts of games involving Alabama:

Per The (Jackson, Miss.) Clarion-Ledger:

There are certain appearance limitations within the agreements the SEC has with its partners. CBS has exhausted the number of appearances for Alabama this season. The Tide’s games against Florida, Ole Miss, Texas A&M and LSU were also on CBS, which has the first pick each week among SEC games.

Therefore, the Iron Bowl will be broadcast by ESPN while CBS will take the Egg Bowl (Ole Miss/Miss. State). This marks the first time that the Egg Bowl will be on network television since 1964.
