Our Interview With Dee Ford (No, The Other Dee Ford)

Dee Ford is a recently-graduated Auburn DE who projects as a first-rounder in the 2014 NFL Draft. Dee Ford is a British woman who works as a surveyor in Kent, a British town not far from London. Ms. Ford was first confused for the Auburn player last month, and she quickly gained hundreds of Twitter followers who were absolutely convinced that she was the 6'2, 243 lb defensive end.

Although she was initially annoyed about the whole situation (and the dozens of unsolicited tweets), Ms. Ford has been a tremendously good sport. While others would have locked their account or changed their handle, she enthusiastically became a real Auburn fan, even scoring some free Tigers gear from AU's Athletic Director (yet another guilty party who tweeted at her, thinking he was mentioning the player). Ms. Ford was nice enough to agree to a brief interview with us, and she shared her thoughts on Auburn, American Football, and yes, Nick Saban.

Chat Sports: What was your initial reaction when you started getting followed by so many college football fans?

Ms. Ford: Confusion... when I didn’t understand why they were following me – especially when they didn’t believe/notice who I was. When it became clear there was confusion, it has become great fun. Last night I had around 650 more followers than I did have and they just keep coming!

Did you have any existing knowledge of American football? Or was it all new to you?

None whatsoever. Obviously I’d heard of it but I’ve never paid it any attention... it always seems a rather strange, violent sport to me.

How many followers did you have before you started getting mistaken for the Auburn player?

About 250, a mix of people interested in dogs or work.

Do you plan on following Auburn football next season?

Absolutely. There’s no way I’m not following Auburn now. By then I might have got to grip with the rules. Maybe.

Do you have an opinion on Nick Saban (if you've heard of him)?

Head Coach, right? Surely the most important man in college football and a man with an eye for talent... would Auburn be where they are without him? (that’s the right answer, isn’t it?!)

Ed. Note: Go easy on her for that one, Tigers fans - she's still learning!

Thanks! Our Auburn readers have seemed very happy to have you as a part of the AU family :)

My pleasure. It’s great fun, everyone in Auburn has been amazing.
