Auburn vs. Texas A&M Preview and Prediction

The Auburn Tigers host Texas A&M in an SEC battle that had all the makings of a top five showdown three weeks ago.

The Aggies have lost three of four coming into this game and are now just looking to knock Auburn out of title contention. With games against Georgia and Alabama still looming, Auburn can't overlook Texas A&M in a potential trap game.

Records:

Auburn: 7-1 (4-1 SEC)

Texas A&M: 6-3 (2-3 SEC)

Last Meeting: Auburn won 45-41 in 2013

Auburn Outlook: The Tigers are in a position to make it back to the National Championship if they win out the remaining schedule.

They defeated Ole Miss in their previous game, setting them up as the number three team in the country.

Nick Marshall continues to lead the offense with 22 total touchdowns and nearly 2,000 total yards. Cameron Artis-Payne leads the SEC in rushing with 969 yards.

Texas A&M Outlook: The Aggies have lost their way after starting the season 5-0. Since then, they have lost Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Alabama in consecutive weeks.

That stretch, which included a 59-0 loss to Alabama, knocked them out of the top 25 entirely. At 2-3 in the SEC, the Aggies are just trying to climb above .500 in the conference.

They have turned to freshman quarterback Kyle Allen after starter Kenny Hill was suspended.

What to watch for: Early in the game is when Texas A&M will make or break their upset bid. Auburn is coming off a huge victory over Ole Miss, and with games against two more top 20 teams in the coming weeks, the Tigers may be overlooking a struggling Aggies unit.

If this game shifts towards Texas A&M early on, then they have a chance to run with it. Auburn can put those worries to bed early if they come out focused.

'Too early to worry about rankings' says Gus Malzahn (AuburnTigers.com)

Prediction:

Auburn - 38, Texas A&M - 23

The Tigers should take care of business at home against an Aggies team that is struggling to find some consistency after an impressive early season performance. Expect Auburn to jump out to an early lead in this one.
