Auburn Football News: Should Gus Malzahn Offer Will Muschamp The Defensive Coordinator Job?

The Auburn Tigers undoubtedly have some questions to answer about their defensive, especially after being gashed in a 34-7 loss to the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday.

One writer believes that those struggles, coupled with the availability of now-former Florida Gators head coach Will Muschamp, means it time for Auburn to hand Muschamp any deal they can to make him the program's defensive coordinator.

Here's Kevin Scarbinsky of AL.com with his thoughts on why the Auburn Tigers should pursue Muschamp regardless of cost:

Malzahn should meet with Ellis Johnson as soon as possible to thank him for his service and wish him well. Johnson has done some good things at Auburn, but the defense's regression this season screams out for a change.

Muschamp's availability makes that scream even louder.

The Florida head coaching job may have been too big for a first-time head coach. The tangible and intangible problems left behind by Urban Meyer may have been too much to overcome.

But Muschamp is an elite defensive coordinator, one of the best in the business. He's right there with Georgia's Jeremy Pruitt, who schooled Malzahn's offense Saturday night, and Alabama's Kirby Smart, who pulled the plug on Dak Prescott's Heisman campaign.

So, what do you think Auburn fans? Is it time for Muschamp to take the reins of the defense at Jordan-Hare. Be sure to add your thoughts in the comment section below.
