Auburn Football News: Bo Pelini, Will Muschamp Options To Replace Ellis Johnson

With Ellis Johnson removed from his duties as the Auburn Tigers' defensive coordinator this past weekend, speculation is swirling over who might be in line to replace him.

AL.com's Brandon Marcello listed some possibilities in an article on Monday, with recently-deposed head coaches Will Muschamp (Florida) and Bo Pelini (Nebraska) being the highlights of his list.

Marcello cites Muschamp's connections with the program as a former student and coach as reason enough to think that he'd at least entertain the chance of staying in conference:

Muschamp will surely want to get back in the coaching ranks again, especially in the SEC. He'll have options as we're sure Texas A&M might also be interested in the proven defensive playcaller. We're told any perceived drama between Muschamp and athletics director Jay Jacobs is in the past and the coach is willing to listen -- if he hasn't already.

In regards to Pelini, Marcello points to Pelini's impressive work as a coordinator as LSU and Oklahoma as reason enough to make a run at him. Pelini, however, could be more likely to take a lower-tier head coaching slot, so it's possible Muschamp might be a better bet in the long run.
