3 Burning Questions For Auburn Football Following Spring Practice

Spring practice is over for the Auburn Tigers, but that doesn’t mean we’re done analyzing what we saw in our first look at head coach Gus Malzahn's 2015 squad. Here’s our list of 3 Burning Questions For Auburn Following Spring Practice:

3) Is Jeremy Johnson ready?

“Like Nick Marshall, but bigger and better” is how one scout described Johnson, who completed 28 of 37 passes in 2014 with three touchdowns and no interceptions in mop-up duty this year. The Tigers will be a better team in 2015, and very few of their offensive weapons are graduating or leaving for the NFL. Gus Malzahn’s offensive scheme will ensure Johnson has the opportunity to put up Heisman-caliber numbers – the rest is up to him.

2) Will young pass rushers take the next step?

Auburn finished 13th in the SEC with only 10 sacks in conference play last season, and they desperately need to improve their pass rush. New defensive coordinator Will Muschamp will improve that with his system, but Carl Lawson, DaVonte Lambert, Kris Frost, and Byron Cowart (No. 1 recruit in the country) need to have a much greater impact for the Tigers to be successful this season.

1) Who will be the top running back?

Malzahn's offense is predicated on running the ball, and while his system will create plenty of opportunities for whoever lines up in the backfield, they need a premier rusher to reach their full potential. Jovon Robinson, the nation's top junior college recruit, is the favorite to step in and take over, but Roc Thomas and Peyton Barber will also get an opportunity.

Malzahn has a history of splitting snaps between two to three running backs early in a season before choosing a No. 1 back, and that will probably be the case again this year.
