After handily disposing of FC Motagua in the Round of 16 a couple weeks ago, Atlanta United has reached the quarterfinals of the Concacaf Champions League for the second straight year. Similar to the previous tournament, the Five Stripes are paired with one of Liga MX’s top teams in Club América. Drawn away in the first leg, Atlanta will take the field at the historic Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, one of the largest soccer stadiums on Earth and site of two World Cup Finals.
This match of heavyweights was nearly avoided, though, as Club América was forced into penalties with Guatemalan side Comunicacaiones in order to advance.
