Dennis Schroder is entering his first NBA season as the expected starting point guard. For him, it feels like it’s been a long time coming. For others, he needed the time as a back-up to help sharpen weaknesses in his game before head coach Mike Budenholzer handed the over the keys to the offense to him.
Just two years ago, there was a similar situation in Oklahoma City between point guards Russell Westbrook and Reggie Jackson. Jackson believed that he was a starting-caliber point guard, but there was no way that he would earn that spot over Westbrook.
