Mathews, a 6’4” guard, played collegiately for three years at California before transferring to Gonzaga for his senior year, where he averaged 10.6 points per game on 40 percent shooting from the field and 39 percent from behind the arc (on over five three-point attempts per game), 3.3 rebounds per game and 1.5 assists per game in 28 minutes per game.
Mathews was a starting member of the Gonzaga Bulldogs team that advanced to the NCAA Division I title game against the North Carolina Tar Heels, but fell short on the day 71-65, with Matthews scoring six points in 32 minutes.
