The Atlanta Hawks' organization seems quite relieved to be able to focus on basketball again, following a summer rife with controversy surrounding racist language used by GM Danny Ferry and controlling owner Bruce Levenson.

After Hawks general manager Danny Ferry made racist comments regarding Luol Deng during a free-agent conference call in June, the franchise hired Atlanta law firm Alston & Bird to conduct an independent review. The proceeding investigation uncovered a 2012 e-mail from Levenson that utilized racially insensitive and crude language to describe the Hawks fan base.

Ferry is currently suspended (with pay) while Levenson has agreed to sell his stake in the team, however players such as the New York Knicks' Carmelo Anthony have come out and publicly stated that they believe the Hawks will now be hampered when it comes to trying to attract free agents.

I don’t buy that,” Hawks legend Dominique Wilkins countered, via USA Today. “Do they want to come in with the negativity? Of course not. But this is a great town to live in. This franchise has been to the playoffs seven straight years. This is a healing process."

"If it’s genuine, guys will come.”
