Another LSU baseball signee is officially turning pro. Left-handed pitcher Briggs McKenzie signed with the Atlanta Braves after being selected with the No. 127 overall pick in the MLB Draft. McKenzie signed for a signing bonus $2.9 million, well above the slot value for the pick.
McKenzie, a fourth-round pick, wasn't a slam dunk to go pro. Players picked in the first three rounds are usually locks to sign, but after that, it's a question mark. The Braves were willing to pay up to hold onto the LSU signee. LSU has had luck in the past with getting borderline prospects to campus, but the Tigers missed here.
