This day in Braves history: Ted Turner manages the Braves

The Pirates had just swept the Braves in a doubleheader the day before, extending their dreaded losing streak to 16 games, and team owner Ted Turner doesn't like losing. His Braves were now 8-21, so he approaches manager Dave Bristol and tells him, "Take 10 days off. I'll manage the team."

If I'm smart enough to save $11 million to buy the team, I ought to be smart enough to manage it.

Right out of the blue, without telling anyone, Ted Turner, billionaire media mogul and owner of the Atlanta Braves, decides he can deduce why his team sucks so bad by adding "field manager" to his resume.
