The Daily Chop: William Contreras time, Travis d’Arnaud headed for surgery and more

We feared the worst when Travis d’Arnaud left Saturday’s game with a thumb injury and those fears were confirmed Sunday when it was revealed that d’Arnaud suffered a torn ligament and will have surgery in the next couple of days. The hope is currently that he will be able to return at some point this season.

Atlanta placed d’Arnaud on the 60-day injured list Sunday morning and recalled catching prospect William Contreras. The team also placed back up Alex Jackson on the 10-day injured list due to a strained hamstring and selected the contract of veteran catcher Jeff Mathis.
