The catching situation in Atlanta was dealt a serious blow with Travis d’Arnaud being placed on the 60-Day IL last week. The veteran has been a staple in the middle of the Braves lineup the past two seasons, and ordinarily catcher injuries create a major vacancy for the inflicted team. Atlanta appears, through the first ten days, appears to have some semblance of stability at the position despite the discouraging news with d’Arnaud. William Contreras has been solid, if unspectacular, but has managed to hit two homers and drive in seven runs in his limited opportunity. The Braves certainly will certainly miss d’Arnaud over the course of the season, but if Contreras can provide power and timely hitting as he has thus far, Atlanta can survive the absence of their veteran backstop.
