Former Saginaw Heritage star Spencer Schwellenbach put together one of his best starts of the season but suffered the loss Sunday in a 5-3 defeat against San Diego.
Schwellenbach fell to 3-4 despite throwing seven complete innings for Atlanta. Schwellenbach allowed two earned runs and no walks, striking out a career-high 11 batters.
He threw 101 pitches, 79 for strikes, including first-pitch strikes against 22 of 28 batters.
But Schwellenbach surrendered a pair of homers to Gavin Sheets and Jake Cronenworth in the Atlanta loss.
