The Boston Red Sox announced they have signed three-time All-Star infielder Brandon Phillips to a minor-league contract.
Phillips is a career .275 hitter with 210 home runs and 209 stolen bases.
He has won four Gold Glove awards as a second baseman in a 16-year career with the Cincinnati Reds, Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Angels.
He has not played in a game in 2018 after batting .285 with 13 home runs in 2017.
Phillips had not signed with a team yet this year, but the 36-year-old told MLB.com in April he still has a desire to play.
