In the history of Major League Baseball, there has never been a more prolific rookie slugger than the New York Mets’ “Polar Bear,” Pete Alonso.
Alonso, with his 53rd homer Saturday night off Mike Foltynewicz at Citi Field, has now hit more homers than any other rookie in MLB history, breaking a tie with Aaron Judge of the cross-town rival New York Yankees.
“It would mean a lot,” Alonso said earlier this week of potentially becoming the new record holder. “There have been a little over 19,000 Major League Baseball players to play the game, and to be the only one, that would be miraculous.
