Perhaps Freddie’s injury is a blessing. The Braves were not going to make the playoffs this year. Sure, they were a pleasant surprise for awhile but it’s a good thing they won’t feel obligated to add pieces at the trade deadline. Now maybe they can get something useful for Jason Grilli. Or perhaps even Cameron Maybin. I wouldn’t trade them just because you’re rebuilding — both have affordable contracts and could be assets next year. But if someone’s willing to overpay, do it. This season is a lost cause. That’s obvious now.
