Middleboro native Sean Newcomb has been traded to the Athletics, the Boston Red Sox announced Tuesday afternoon.
Boston received cash considerations in exchange for the left-handed pitcher. Newcomb made 12 appearances for his hometown ball club, including his debut on March 31. He made five starts with a 3.95 ERA, 18 earned runs allowed, and 41 strikeouts across 41 innings pitched.
Newcomb signed a minor league deal with Boston this offseason, and initially made the Red Sox starting pitching rotation as multiple pitchers dealt with injuries to begin the season.
